Open pedagogy represents a transformative shift in educational philosophy, emphasizing learner agency, collaboration, and equity in knowledge creation. Rooted in the open education movement, it redefines the roles of teachers and students through participatory, networked, and ethical learning practices. Drawing on frameworks such as Hegarty’s attributes and Wiley’s 5R model, open pedagogy promotes renewable assignments, student co-design, and critical engagement with Open Educational Resources (OER). It fosters authentic learning, professional growth, and social justice by bridging classrooms with global communities. Despite challenges related to ethics, access, and institutional barriers, open pedagogy continues to evolve through digital innovation, cross-institutional collaboration, and leadership from the Global South. Ultimately, it envisions education as a shared, human-centred endeavours that transforms learners into empowered contributors to the global knowledge commons.
